WORRY CLUB - ALL FROGS GO TO HEAVEN

Writer: Ellis PhillipsEllis Phillips

I stumbled across this Indie Rock band while watching some Instagram Reels the other week. I usually have a rule to myself to not get invested in so called "Tik Tok" music, as so much of it exists solely to be the soundtrack to cringey 8-bit humor, but Worry Clubs live performance of "Same Name" instantly gripped me and made me make an exception. So, I looked up the song and found out it was off the bands new EP and thought why not give the whole EP a listen. This album was refreshing to me, as I don't usually listen to rock but what instantly stood out to me was their somber delivery of self anxious lines, which are then followed up by high temp, raging chords. This dichotomy of solemn delivery and aggressive instrumentals are apparent on my favorite tracks "Bub" and "Same Name". "Aren't I the ugliest thing you've ever held?" are lines delivered slowly and quietly at the beginning of "Bub", yet the bridge comes in with loud, distorted guitar chords and an abrasive bass line which will pull you in, and push you back out just as soon as they cease to allow for the bleak lines to hit you again. On "Same Name", Worry Club changes it up if you listen closely. Their laid back delivery is layered with background, heavy metal like vocals which add another dimension to the message of the song. They don't want to go back to who they were when they were younger, and they are not just so-so about it; they deliver this message with fire and angst. This EP will definitely remain in my rotation for a long time. Listen here:
